Raleigh – The North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys – lawyers who typically represent opposing sides in civil litigation – have both endorsed Judge Linda Stephens. Stephens is the only judge to date to receive the dual endorsement of these groups for the 2008 election.

"These lawyers follow our courts carefully," Stephens said, "and I am honored to have their unified support. I strive every day to work hard and apply the law fairly, and am grateful for the recognition that these endorsements represent."

In addition to the legal groups, Stephens was recently endorsed by the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). NCAE has 70,000 members and 130 local units around the state.

These endorsements follow last week’s bipartisan endorsements from Republican and Democratic former North Carolina Supreme Court Justices. Stephens also announced last week that she was the first judicial candidate this cycle to raise the maximum contributions allowable under the Judicial Campaign Reform Act.

"I am very pleased that we have accomplished so much at this stage," Stephens commented. "I look forward to continuing my travels around our state to talk with people about our courts."

Prior to joining the Court of Appeals, Judge Stephens worked for the former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, served as a Deputy Commissioner at the North Carolina Industrial Commission, and was engaged in the private practice of law for more than twenty years. Judge Stephens lives in Raleigh with her husband, Wake County Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens, and the cats and dogs they have rescued over the years.
